Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, located in Changning District, Shanghai, China, is 13 kilometers from the city center. It is a Class 4E civilian international airport, one of China's three major gateway composite hubs, an international scheduled flight airport, a Category I open aviation port, and a designated alternate airport for international flights.
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was originally built in 1921 and rebuilt in 1950. In 1971, it was converted from joint military-civil use to exclusive civil aviation use. In 2010, Terminal 2 and the second runway were put into operation. The airport has one runway and one taxiway. The runway is 3,400 meters long and 57.6 meters wide. The apron covers approximately 486,000 square meters and has a total of 66 aircraft stands. The airport features 15 departure lounges, 18 VIP lounges, and 15 baggage handling systems. With its advanced infrastructure and comprehensive navigation, communication, and support systems, the airport meets the takeoff and landing requirements for all types of aircraft currently in operation, handling an average of about 540 flights per day.
In 2008, Beijing Jinghang'an Airport Engineering Co., Ltd. undertook the pavement overlay projects for the first and second runways, as well as the visual aid-to-navigation and apron lighting projects for the expansion and renovation of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. With its sophisticated construction techniques and distinctive construction highlights, the project stood out among numerous high-quality projects and successively received honors such as the "Shanghai Municipal Engineering Gold Cup Award" and the "China Municipal Engineering Gold Cup Award" in 2011 and 2012.
